Gratitude in the Fog

Super foggy view from the Burgenstock Resort in Lucerne Switzerland; we couldn't see anything we were supposed to see.

Sometimes life gives you crystal-clear views. Other times, you’re standing in the Swiss Alps… and can’t see the peaks at all.

That was my experience last week: fog, rain, clouds. The postcard views never arrived.

It would have been easy to complain, to focus on what wasn’t there. But choosing gratitude shifted everything. I noticed the crisp air, the quiet trails, and the simple gift of being present in a place I may never visit again.

The truth is, leadership and life are often like that. You can’t always control the weather — but you can always control your response.

Reflection Question: Where in your leadership right now do you need to stop waiting for clear skies and choose gratitude in the fog?

Book Recommendation: The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor — a powerful reminder that positivity isn’t just an attitude, it’s a driver of performance.
